First Light Project 2009-10

In 2009 Sawston Village College was given a Studio Award from First Light (now Into Film).

The funding was to make four short 10-minute films, and so members of the Cinema Club divided themselves into different crews to work on the films.  You can see all of the films discussed below on the OUR FILMS page.

Fences

Fences was a gritty, hard-hitting and edgy drama about the effect of unemployment on family relations.

School of Lego

As the name suggests, this film is made entirely of lego! School of Lego has enjoyed a lot of success since it was made. It was nominated by First Light in the best animation category at the 2011 First Light Awards. It has also been shown at various Film Festivals and won best animated film at a festival in Rio, Brazil, as well being given the ‘Special Mention’ at Anifest, the second biggest animation film festival in Europe in Teplice, in the Czech Republic. Some of the Cinema Club members involved in making this film were able to go to the Czech Republic to see their film in competition. The film they made documenting their trip can also be seen on this website. Look for Anifest on the OUR FILMS page.

Mysterinema

This film focuses on different film genres and plays on scenes from different famous films. The main character, Danny, visits a cinema, is pulled into the screen into the world of film and has some unexpected experiences.

One of the Mysterinema group members wrote the book of the film.

One Giant Step

This film was made with Icknield Primary School, a feeder school for Sawston Village College. The film focused on exploring young people’s fears about moving from primary to secondary school.
